Soft Truxedo tonneau covers are a practical way to protect your truck cargo and truck bed from rain and other elements.  It also improves your truck’s gas mileage by trapping air in the truck bed, reducing lag and increasing your truck’s speed.  But when the Velcro wears out, your tonneau’s performance will be compromised as the cover will start to sag due to lack of tension control.  That is why replacing the Velcro of your Truxedo’s Velcro is a must when occasions like this arises.  This is especially true for tonneau covers like the Truxedo Lo Pro QT soft tonneau.

But before you start replacing the Velcro strips on your Truxedo tonneau cover, you need to check the warranty period first as modifications could void the warranty of your tonneau cover.  Once you’re done, the first thing you need to do is look for a high quality, heavy duty Velcro.  You can find retailers online or in your area that offer the best deals in heavy duty Velcro strips for soft tonneau covers like Truxport.  To get the right size, measure the old Velcro strips of your tonneau cover using a tape measure while the tonneau cover is spread out.

Once you get the correct measurement, cut the new Velcro to the same size as the old Velcro strips using a pair of scissors.  After cutting the new Velcro strips, remove the old ones by cutting the stitches of the original Velcro strips with a sharp razor blade.  Be careful not to cut the fabric of the cover.  Remember that a little tear on your soft tonneau cover can grow over time.  If you also want to remove the Velcro strips on the side rails, carefully peel off the old Velcro strips and clean off the adhesive residue with acetone.

Position the new Velcro strips to the position of the old Velcro strips and sew 1/16 inch from the strip’s edge.  Set the sewing machine to make long stitches.  After that, flip the soft tonneau cover to check if the holes of the original stitches are exposed.  If the holes are exposed, make a second line of stitches to add additional security and hide the holes at the same time.  If you’re replacing the Velcro strips on the side rails, use industrial strength adhesives to replace the Velcro strips.  Make sure that the adhesive you use is for outdoor use.
